Foldable Phones Are Here to Stay and Experts Agree That’s a Good Thing

News, Phones, Tech
Apple might not agree, but folding phones have a lot to offer. Experts say that while you might not have one yet, a foldable phone could be in your future. And there's a lot to look forward to. With Samsung's recent announcement of not one, but two new foldable phones, it's the big player in a market that's still taking shape. That is to say that Samsung is one of a handful of companies offering foldable phones for sale in the country, but experts expect that to change soon enough. Apple will surely join the fray, and not before time. "More than anything else, foldables reintroduce an element of fun that was missing in the handset industry in the last five years," Harish Jonnalagadda, a senior editor at Android Central, tells Lifewire via WhatsApp message. They point to the fact ...

MediaTek’s new platform for 5G routers and mobile hotspots can help save cost

News, Tech
Shot in the arm for cellular internet services Taiwanese company MediaTek has announced the T830 hardware platform for 5G mobile hotspots, fixed wireless internet access devices, which are now getting more mainstream now. The new platform is intended to provide power savings and reduce development time and costs. The T830, MediaTek said, will make it possible for operators to deliver 5G speeds up to 7 Gbps right out of the box using sub-6 GHz cellular infrastructure and avoid the costs of wireline technologies such as cable or fiber. Thanks to T830, super-fast internet service is possible from a small device which can self-install, this can help avoid lengthy installation times for fixed line broadband. Embracer Group, the company forging one IP portfolio to rule them all, explained

Featued, Gaming, News, Tech
The Swedish holding company doesn’t own quite everything that’s not Activision or EA, but it’s getting there The Embracer Group is a doozy of a media company. It’s 11 parent companies in a massive trench coat that are themselves composed of several more parent companies that own publishers and developers and the rights to video game franchises both AAA and indie. Earlier today, it added a bunch more companies to its roster including Limited Run Games, Maneater developer Tripwire Interactive, and the intellectual property rights to parts of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit universes. To list all of Embracer Group’s companies and assets would take an unreasonable amount of time and space and would get kinda boring. So here are the high points in the company’s portfolio. WHAT VI...
Yes, inflation has come for tech products, too

Yes, inflation has come for tech products, too

Featued, News, Tech
For many, this summer has been the season of inflation. After fuel prices spiked earlier this year (and have only slowly started to come down), it seems like everything we had to pay for suddenly became more expensive. Outside of the gas station, this is most likely felt at the grocery store, where staples like bread, pasta, vegetables, and other consumables all cost more now than they did a year (or even just a few months) ago. Inflation has also impacted the price of tech products, like smartphones and laptops, but it can be harder to spot. Unlike food or other consumables, technology products have a long production cycle, often taking 18 months or more to go from an idea to a store shelf. Many companies set a product’s target price at the start of its development cycle, which m...
The three true robotic startup outcomes

The three true robotic startup outcomes

Featued, News, Tech
Allow me to borrow a phrase from baseball for a moment. If you follow the sport, you’re likely aware of the concept of the “three true outcomes.” They are, specifically, a home run, a strikeout, and a walk. The throughline between the three is that, in most instances, they’re not determined by the defense. There’s gray area, of course, as is the case with any attempt at defining an absolute. There’s also a longstanding question of how valuable the concept is, in the forever cold war of baseball analysis. That’s all fine, because I’m mostly interested in co-opting the phrase here. Broadly speaking, the three true outcomes for a robotics startup would be: Going publicGetting acquiredDying As with the baseball world, there’s plenty of gray area to maneuver around in here. In robo...
